Vitaliy Dorogan, PPC: “Trends in Ukraine’s Oil and Gas Sector Align with Global Tendencies”

The team from JV Poltava Petroleum Company (PPC), a key asset of the British JKX Oil & Gas Group, participated in the 8th Kyiv Oil and Gas Conference organized by Newfolk Research & Consulting Center. The event brought together leading industry experts to discuss the current state of Ukraine’s oil and gas sector and its future prospects. Key areas of focus included energy independence, achieving climate neutrality, and implementing innovative technologies in the sector.

The conference served as an important platform for dialogue between Ukrainian and international professionals, promoting the sustainable development of Ukraine’s energy sector on its path to energy independence and climate neutrality.

Key topics at the conference included:

  • Energy resource exploration: A new paradigm for commercial deposits mapping, investment atlases of mineral resources by the State Geological Service, prospects for developing deeper horizons, and trigeneration—combined production of electricity, heat, and cooling.
  • Advanced technologies: Increasing geological drilling success, managing technological risks in gas well construction, and new-generation systems for detecting and localizing leaks in main pipelines.
  • Climate: Decarbonizing underground gas storage operations, along with renewable energy projects as alternatives to coal, including examples from Qatar and a pilot project in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine.

Today, Ukraine faces the same challenges as the global oil and gas industry. We are working on further exploring commercial reserves at existing fields, increasing oil and gas recovery rates through cutting-edge technologies, improving the company’s operational efficiency through deeper oil and gas processing, and enhancing well productivity. At the same time, we are focusing on reducing our carbon footprint and seeking new energy sources. Some technological advances in resource exploration and practical renewable energy cases are truly impressive,” said PPC CEO Vitaliy Dorogan.

Sharing experiences at such events allows companies to implement best practices and remain competitive, even in the face of wartime challenges. Despite significant infrastructure losses due to enemy shelling, PPC continues to modernize its production processes and stays up to date with emerging trends.

PPC is constantly working to support and improve well production. For example, we have implemented the Production Enhancement system, which uses leading industry solutions to optimize field development,” added Oleksandr Doroshenko, Head of the Development and Exploration Department. The Newfolk Conference is always an opportunity to meet with colleagues, exchange experiences, and find effective solutions to overcome the challenges of wartime.”
